[Story - Seeking Advice From a Pretty Redhead]
"I wish for advice."
While it may seem like an odd pairing to spot, Samasu Sadame-- the one everyone knows of, at least-- has sought out the company of the Barian Labrys. She had a look about her that she expected this visit under good tidings, so she had made time to step out of Mamoru's testing lab to allow Sadame to approach her, under his own terms.
To Labrys, Sadame reminded her a bit of Beagalltach, in a way-- the old Beagalltach moreso than Kai-- so she had continued to speak to him in spite of realizing that he was unrelated to the entire situation. It ended up being beneficial, as their precognitive abilities gave them something to bond over.
However, Labrys could only see "success", while Sadame seemed cursed to only seen "failures". They have done strategical exercises before-- essentially playing board games, to anyone who might've spotted them-- but this was the first time he had approach with a specific query in mind.
So Labrys, kindly, patted next to her on the bench on LDS's main campus, inviting him to sit next to her, which he politely obliged to do so.
"Advice? From me? It's rare to see you not be decisive."
"You would be surprised at how often I have difficulty making decisions, but this is not a normal situation, that I am having trouble with." Sadame flexed a few fingers, looking a bit anxious-- no, more like he was overheated? Despite his button-up top, he seemed rather warmly dressed for what Labrys could judge as "temperate Summer-like weather" by her internal gauges, but well... That wasn't her business to question. He was the one who was here with questions.
"What exactly then, is the problem?"
"I have an Alternate running around."
Labrys had to take a moment, thinking back to Mamoru's Alternate who caused trouble before. Yes, she was familiar with this. "Would you like me to strike them down in combat?"
"I am asking for advice, not for a professional hit job."
"Making certain." There was a hint of a smirk on Labrys' expression, but she kept her emotions in check. "What advice would you like?"
"I have... options, when it comes to my Alternate. I have given them warnings about their continued presence, and hoped to avoid conflict, but they seem to be... Set in staying here, doing whatever troublesome thing they are doing. I feel it would be preferable if they are stopped before they do something they regret, but approaching them personally may give risk of us... Merging."
"'Merging'? Do you think that's going to happen, if you get near them?"
"I am almost positive." Sadame leaned back a bit, stretching. "They ended up dueling with me against a "hero" that had appeared at the tower of the fae, some months ago. We were rather in-sync, but... It felt like too much. Like if we had continued to linger around each other, our senses would have merged. Our beings. They distanced themselves very quickly after that."
"It sounds like you were very compatible, then."
"Well, of course. They are me, from another possibility. Of course we would be compatible. But it does not mean it is a preferred state."
"What is the advice that you want, then? You haven't actually asked the question."
Sadame took a moment to think of how to word this. Human language was always so limiting, so it was hard to convey just what it is he wanted about this...
"... Should I allow a merge to occur?"
"You're the one who just mentioned it might not be preferred. But you're not actually sure about that, are you?"
Sadame shook his head. "My feelings say it might not be preferred, but... I can't see any future where a merge has occurred."
Labrys didn't really expect that-- she sat up straight, more at attention. "You see... Nothing at all? Really?"
"Nothing. Any future I see, is one where I stay as I am. But given the nature of my abilities..."
Labrys now understood why he sought her out specifically. They both knew their particular limits, and how well they compensated for each other. So it makes some sense that if Sadame can't see a future, out of all bad possibilities... Then perhaps...
"I'm not used to looking for a future on purpose, for someone else. It usually is just related to successes related to me. You understand that what I see might not be accurate for you, or might not be what you want in the end, even if it's better for you... Correct?"
"I am aware of that. But I need to know: does any future exist, at all? Or is it null and void, if I choose to allow a merger to occur?"
Labrys closed her eyes, focusing inwardly. Searching, seeing. She let her senses stretch out across possibilities, trying to center in on her friend's question. It took so long, that Sadame began to worry that she had locked up.
But she opened her eyes, eventually, moving a bit of her red hair out of her eyes, tucking behind her ear. "You have a future, like that. More-- you have a Singularity point that will occur, if you choose to allow it to happen. If you do it, there will be no reversing course, for either you or your Alternate. But..."
"... but?"
Labrys smiled softly. "You may be a bit happier, at least."
"... Only a bit?" Labrys laughed at the slightly incredulous tone, standing up.
"Well, I guess elements like that are harder to judge overall. But I can say that from my view, it wouldn't be a bad future to consider." Labrys looked over her shoulder, a bit bemused. "And maybe you would feel more freedom, to do what you wish to do, in the end."
The statement felt a little pointed, and Sadame cleared his throat a bit, standing up as well. "I see. Thank you. I will take your advice into consideration, given the circumstances."
"Of course. Anytime. We should get together for another exercise, sometime. Before you make your final decision. Perhaps it will help you focus."
"... I will see if it can be done."
