[Story - Missing]
"Ugh... wrong, wrong..."
Labrys's fingers twitched slightly as she looked through Dragluon's systems. Things were cut out-- large pieces of data seemed to be entirely removed. The tracking program for demonic movements in the Ettosyleit especially... She had been hoping to re-engineer it to try to find some certain someones who seemingly vanished out of nowhere, but now she'd have to work from scratch?
Just what or who managed to take out this data? The Astrals? No, the Astrals would probably prefer it if the Barians were tracking demons... After all, that was their main duty, and they never seemed to be against them doing their ordained duty.
So why was this missing? Even some other incidental data seemed out of place to her-- just slightly off enough to bug her, as she tried to organize it all.
Someone must've managed to get into the system, somehow. But who? She closed her eyes, pausing for a moment to try to gather her thoughts.
The last time she was at the terminal was before going to the Duel Festival, because she had wanted to confront Akaba Reiji about the cards he was using... She had ended up getting caught up with a strange attack-- some bug-like monsters had launched an assault, taking advantage of people being gathered in one place. Something about them aiming for a girl. She did manage to get to talking to Akaba, and he had ended up promising to not use those monsters anymore, except under the most dire circumstances, but after that...
... What happened after that? Those bugs had been beaten back, and things were calm. Had she simply not checked the system since then? No, that couldn't be. She had to have checked it at some point after that; she had Dragluon's card with her up to a week or two ago. So she had dueled the system, but for what? And when?
She let out an annoyed grunt. She knew memory issues happen with them, but it was usually due to them "dying" and having to be recreated, and she feels like she'd at least know if that happened.
A voice rang out. Cordial, even-toned. "Supervisor Tachyon, you appear to be straining yourself. I recommend you take a moment to rest." The Dragluon Facility had a fully functional AI-- perhaps not so advanced as the Barians, but it was aware of the users' states. And it was right. She was straining herself. She could feel herself twitching, despite being in the presence of a Legendary Number.
She definitely needed to try to relax before tackling this again. She removed her hands from the overlay she was working from, as it vanished. "Apologies, Dragluon. If you can, please attempt again to find the tracking program while I take a break." "Of course, Supervisor Tachyon."
With the order noted, the system began to work-- but she could already tell there wouldn't be any success to it. But, well... Anything to keep it busy and in use. It didn't seem to remember being taken out from the facility, either, so even with it's slightly more limited AI, it likely bothered it as well.
After all, the terms of removing a Legendary Number from a facility location was to conduct a duel. What does it say if it can't remember that?

Labyrs returned to the island that she and the other Barians called their home-- well, most of the other Barians. There were two others, recently discovered as having been in Heartland City, that opted to stay away for the moment, for whatever reason.
Failnaught... he was overjoyed when he heard that they existed, really. Even if they were a different generation, there was a sense of familial bond between all of them. Like finding out you have the equivalent of nephews or grandchildren, Labrys suspected, even though they had a very limited view on how such feelings must be.
But they had wanted to stay away. Something about not wanting to gather all in one place, in case the Astrals changed their minds. One of them, Durbe-- he had warned that they shouldn't get too comfortable being here, together, if they wanted to survive.
Of course, long as Labrys could tell that their path was steady and certain, she felt at ease on this island. This remaining part of their world.
She went out to the edge of the island, sitting and watching as the ocean's waves lapped at the solid rock. The sun was bright. She could tell the temperature had increased by a wide margin recently. A change of the seasons. Achilleshield's plants were going wild at this point thanks to the rising temperatures and rain. It was curious actually, to witness-- acknowledging a steady change in environments was almost novel to her, since there was no concept of "weather" or "seasons" in the Ettosyleit... except maybe for when things were just a bit more chaotic than usual.
She closed her eyes, listening to the sound of the waves for some time, before she heard footsteps. She quickly got up and turned around--
And it was only Aegis. She had her hands raised in a way like she was surrendering, and Labrys felt her tension easing up. "Sorry, Aegis. You should learn to speak up before you approach."
"Eheheh... Guess so. Sorry. You looked so peaceful, I almost didn't want to stop it!" Her, peaceful? She must've really been relaxed, then.
"Was there something you wanted?" Aegis smiled at the question, before coming over and sitting next to where Labrys was. Labrys herself sat down next to her.
"It looks really nice out there, doesn't it? Seeing the ocean, and the sun... It's weird to realize we live here now, right?" Aegis's words seemed to echo Labrys's own thoughts. No surprise really-- they all must still be feeling some amazement at this.
What did surprise her was when Aegis grabbed Labrys's hand, beaming. "So! I was thinking! We never get to do things together, and the job Achilles and I have-- well, I was thinking we should go and do something! Just us and maybe Lancea too!"
Labrys was amused at how cheery Aegis was. "Just the girls, then?" Aegis nodded enthusiastically. She seemed so happy at the prospect of getting to spend time with them... how could she refuse?
"Did you have something in mind?"
"Well!" Aegis pulled out some sort of phamplet, showing it-- it seemed to be some advertisement for Domino City's beaches. "You know how there's no sand here, right? The ocean's a deep drop down from here, so... I'm thinking we should go to one of these!"
Amazing, she actually did have something in mind... "And have you asked Lancea yet?"
"Of course! She's excited too! And there's something about wearing bathing suits? I guess we're gonna have to ask about what that means... Looks like there's specific clothes for when you go to a beach, on Earth. I think some other worlds have a custom like that too..."
Well, if Lancea was on board already. "... If you can figure out the specifics of that, I'll be happy to come with you and Lancea, Aegis."
Aegis was thrilled to hear it, as she repeated "thank you"s to Labrys, excitedly re-reading the phamplet she had.
But really, Labrys could almost thank Aegis for offering. She needed to take her mind off of things being off. Things being missing.
And what better way than spending time with family?
She scarcely even realized that the twitching had stopped.
