I'll be very honest, here:

Failnaught holds grudges. This is part of the problem. Even if he were to consciously forgive, the pathways of his mind have already worn in that pattern.

So I wouldn't necessarily take offense or make that stop you from trying to help, irregardless. If you need to, I'm sure that one of us could always volunteer for you to examine, to get a baseline idea of how to help him before offering to him.
